Twenty kidnapped victims, including ten women, were freed when an air force jet hovered above Rugu forest in Katsina State, scaring away bandits.
They told reporters at the Hajj camp in Katsina on Saturday they spent five months in the bandits’ enclave.
Among the escapees were 10 women, eight girls, a middle-aged man and a boy.
The bandits, who were killed Friday night when the jets were heard, ran for safety when they heard the roar of jets. This gave the bandits (victims) a chance to escape.
When we heard the jet, we were sitting with a few of the bandits boys who were guarding us as usual. When I saw them running, I began to unlock the padlock that was locking my legs and began to run,” he said.
Mannir, one of the escapees, said that he asked the women to pick their children so that they could all run for freedom together.
