Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, stated that the election is not about who is most qualified, but rather about who is most capable.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Baba-Ahmed, who was announced earlier that day as Obi’s running mate, stated this.

Datti Baba-Ahmed admonished Nigerians not to make the same mistake twice by judging candidates by their religion or tribe.

He stated, “For more than six decades, religion and tribalism have eaten deeply into Nigerian politics, and the current administration has utilised these factors to win elections.

I wouldn’t probe the previous government if elected – Peter Obi

“Who lamented maladministration the most after its victory? Who cast curses against the government? The president is descended from the populace. The region from which he (the president) originates is the hardest hit.”

Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former senator, urged Nigerians to choose their leaders regardless of their disagreements.

“God does not make a mistake in creating us with multiple religions; it is His intention that we be this way. We are not vying for religious leadership; we are vying for the presidency, so I see no reason to take religion into account.”

In response to the question of why he accepted to be Obi’s running mate, he stated, “What Nigeria needs right now is to save it from catastrophic collapse, thus Obi provided me convincing reasons after watching his character and ability to accomplish the job.”
