“This is to inform our esteemed party leaders under our capable President Muhammadu Buhari, our teeming party members, and the great people of Nigeria of the outcome of a crucial discussion I just had with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

“Recall that I had the rare honour and privilege of being nominated as Asiwaju Tinubu’s running mate last month during the fiercely contested presidential primaries preceding the general elections of 2023.

“However, after great deliberation and extensive consultations, I now wish to resign. I understood that my decision would give Asiwaju more flexibility to provide more accommodation and inclusivity, which would position our party to win the upcoming elections with the backing of the Nigerian people.

In resigning, I feel I can continue to serve our party and our country in a variety of other roles.

“I confirm that I have filed my withdrawal letter and affidavit as Vice Presidential Candidate for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TInubu in the upcoming elections.

“On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to thank Asiwaju Tinubu — the incoming president, Insha Allah — for his confidence in me, and we pledge to continue to support him and the party.”
