President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with northern governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before accreditation of delegates begins today for the convention where the party’s presidential candidate for next year’s election will be chosen.

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), and Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau, chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, are present at the meeting.

Others include Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna, Babagana Zulum, Borno, Abdullahi Sule, Nasarawa, Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe, Mai Mala Buni, Yobe, Abubakar Sani Bello, Niger, Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano, and Aminu Bello Masari, Katsina, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, Jigawa, and Abdurrahman Abdulrazaq, Kwara.

As of the time this story was filed, only Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State had not arrived.

The president has advocated for a consensus candidate among the 23 candidates for the presidency.

This is the president’s fourth meeting with stakeholders in less than a week to guarantee that tomorrow’s presidential primary contest is free of rancour.

Before departing for Madrid, Spain on Tuesday, President Buhari met with 22 APC governors and informed them that he required their assistance in selecting his successor.

He stated that the party’s presidential candidate must instil confidence and a sense of success in the Nigerian populace before to the polls.
