Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State stated that President Muhammadu Buhari informed governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his favoured presidential candidate prior to the APC’s presidential primary poll.
Tuesday, Governor Sule divulged this information in an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today.
Tuesday morning, President Muhammadu Buhari met with 22 APC governors to discuss the upcoming presidential primary and the need for a unified stance.
Sule stated, “The president stated that our consensus candidate or the candidate to be chosen must be acceptable to Nigerians, a person who comprehends what the APC stands for and seeks to accomplish.
“He emphasised that the individual must be able to travel to all sections of the country and be accepted. Similar to what President Buhari has stated, we must nominate a candidate who can win elections and continue the APC’s achievements.
“However, if you are seeking a name, the president did not mention it. While he is in Spain for a few days, he provided us with the necessary information to identify the proper individual. When he returns, everyone will be able to say “we have considered it.”
Sule stated, however, that by selecting the PDP presidential ticket, Atiku is not just competing against the APC’s presidential candidate, but also against the entire party.
He continued, “He has additional work to do because he must persuade them that he is superior to our candidate and the APC.”
