Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has said he will not endorse a candidate in the country’s upcoming presidential election in 2023.
As Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate, met with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in London, the former president was also present.
There were rumours that the Nigerian leader was trying to have Obi elected.
While visiting former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar in Minna, Niger State’s capital, on Sunday, Obasanjo stated he had a national agenda rather than a favourite candidate.
I’m not running on any one person’s platform, but rather on a national agenda…. I’ve made the trip to check on my sickly brother. Even though I had intended to see him when he was in London, he had already returned home by the time I got there.
For that reason, I drove all the way here to pay him a visit in his house. I had to be here because he is so unique.
After a brief military interregnum, Abdulsalami transferred power to Obasanjo’s civilian government in 1999.
