Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that if elected president, he will “strike the ground running from the first day.”
He made the remarks Tuesday during a visit to Ogun state, where he addressed his supporters.
Yemi Osinbajo, who is running for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, said his experience working under President Muhammadu Buhari has equipped him with the necessary skills to assume leadership in 2023.
“After being chosen vice president, I had the extraordinary chance to serve under President Muhammadu Buhari, who exposed me to virtually every facet of administration. He introduced me to a variety of aspects of government and gave me the opportunity to serve as acting president on multiple occasions,” he explained.
“I am aware that high-level governance takes considerable expertise. And after seven and a half years of working as vice president, seeing things that many people have never seen, and having the opportunity to participate in governance at both the local and international levels, I know that God did not provide those opportunities solely so that I could sit down and write my memoir. No. God is without error. He granted those chances in order for me to be called upon to serve in a greater role — as president — one day.
“The chance to do so is critical. And no one should ever give us a story. The reality is that wherever I have served, I have done so with the highest dedication and commitment. I’ve jeopardised my reputation — and, on occasion, my life. There is no place where people I served will not say I went above and beyond to ensure their success.
“With the deepest humility, it is now clear that if there is someone, any candidate or contender, who can hit the ground running on day one, who knows what to do on day one, and who will not spend the next two years deciding what to do, that person is your son, Oluyemi Osinbajo. That, my friends, is the objective truth.
“So, I want to emphasise to you that the opportunity that has presented itself to me and to you as Remo brothers and sisters is one that we should address with diligence, devotion, and prayer.
“If God permits, it will be a very wonderful thing for Remo, Ogun state, and our country. I feel I possess the qualifications necessary at this time to serve this nation and guarantee that we are able to provide the greatest leadership possible.
“Let no one misunderstand us. Remo allows for just one son. And he is the one you are currently viewing.”
