Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that sensitive election materials will no longer be routed through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Additionally, he specifies that commencing with the Ekiti state governorship election, INEC will no longer store its critical documents with the CBN.

According to him, the purpose of this action is to ensure that election materials for the forthcoming elections are not compromised.

This was expressed by the INEC Chairman in response to queries posed at an ongoing dialogue on Elections in Abuja.

Several individuals and organisations have expressed grave worry regarding the secrecy of Elections materials held by the CBN after reports of the CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, expressing interest in running for the country’s presidency surfaced in recent months.
