Some Kano youths have given former President Goodluck Jonathan a seven-day ultimatum to announce his interest in the 2023 Presidential election.
Hundreds of youngsters converged to the Kano state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday, after a demonstration in several key locations around the city.
They brandished banners, posters, and placards bearing various messages expressing their allegiance to the previous president.
Several banners and posters had messages such as “Jonathan, Do Not Abandon Us,” “Come To Our Country’s Rescue,” and “Jonathan, You Must Run.”
Daily Trust exclusively reported that two northern governors are pressuring Jonathan to run for a second term, and that he is set to announce.
Mubashir Tafida, Coordinator of the Jonathan Support Organization, stated at the NUJ secretariat that Nigeria is in a terrible situation and that only a guy like Jonathan can repair it.
Tafida stated that if the former president did not declare his candidacy, two million young people would invade his office and compel him to run.
“Nigeria’s economic insecurity is wreaking havoc. This is something that requires the intervention of a man like Jonathan.”
“There was no hunger or poverty under his presidency.” He holds the key to our fate. He is our father, and as children, we implore him to run for office in order to rescue us from Nigeria’s current calamity.
“So, we’re giving him a seven-day deadline to declare for the president or we’re going to swarm his office with 2 million kids and compel him to declare.” Our fate is determined by his choice to run.”
Additionally, the Coordinator claimed that they are unconcerned with whatever political party Jonathan should run under.
