Only 1,390,519 Nigerians are eligible to vote in the 2023 general elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, 45 percent of the country’s total registered voters are invalid.
Only 1,390,519 Nigerians have legitimate permanent voters cards (PVCs) in the country, according to him.
“This is a difficult situation,” Yakubu stated.
Only ten of the 18 registered political parties have notified the commission of their primaries, according to him.
He asked the remaining parties to take action and for all parties to obey the electoral rules and other recommendations to the letter.
