Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claims he has his running mate in his pocket.

Thursday in the State House in Abuja, Bola Tinubu stated this to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State, and Wale Tinubu, chairman and chief executive officer of Oando Plc, joined Tinubu on a thank-you visit to the president.

Bola Tinubu, speaking to press following the meeting, praised President Buhari for levelling the playing field for the selection of the party’s presidential nominee.

He recalled the president’s repeated assurances that he would uphold the democratic process, which he demonstrated by winning the party’s presidential primary.

“He promised the entire nation and the world that he would leave behind a legacy of openness and consistency, as well as a level playing field for all aspirations. Indeed, he demonstrated his commitment to democratic ideas and values.

“He did not advocate anyone, he did not impose anyone, and he never attempted to manipulate the voting process to favour one clan over another. He was consistent, dependable, and trustworthy…

“If he had to give it to anyone yesterday, it was the process and administration of that election that gave it to President Muhammadu Buhari,” he stated. “My victory is not significant; the process and management of that election are.”

When asked what his selling point for the 2023 election campaign would be, he responded, “I am brilliant, I am experienced from the private sector to the public sector, and I am ready to hit the ground running the same day, while preserving the legacy of progress and honesty that President Muhammadu Buhari has left for me and handed to me.”

“All APC family members should celebrate in a restricted manner, as we are only beginning the arduous work necessary to gain the victory for our party,” he stated. “However, we will win.”

When asked about his running mate, he responded, “I won’t say.” This is my privilege; it is in my wallet.”

Tinubu Has Guaranteed APC Governors a VP Position – Spokesman

I would push for Bola Tinubu’s success, Buhari told APC governors.

President Buhari pledged yesterday morning to work closely with APC governors to ensure Tinubu’s win.

In a letter addressed to Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State and Chairman of the Progressives Governor Forum, Buhari described the just ended APC presidential primary as one of the most competitive and peaceful in Nigeria’s democratic history.

A portion of the letter released yesterday by a presidential spokeswoman, Garba Shehu, stated: “The party primaries were conducted peacefully, and the delegates have chosen the candidate to fly the APC banner in the 2023 Presidential Primaries.

“Today, as a patriotic APC member and shareholder, I hope you will join forces to help our candidate win the 2023 elections.

“We have accomplished much during our seven years in government. Nevertheless, we have a substantial amount of additional work to complete. The APC project is far from complete, and we need all of you to work with us to ensure that our road towards peace and prosperity continues.

“Our candidate, His Excellency, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is well-known to you. He is a buddy and brother of ours. We are familiar with his commitment, his track record, and his capacity to lead our party to victory. Therefore, now is the moment for all of us to unite and march forward in the same manner as we did in 2015 to achieve a decisive APC victory.

“I look forward to collaborating closely with APC Governors to ensure the triumph of Sen. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2023.”

In the meantime, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President Goodluck Jonathan have congratulated Tinubu on being the APC presidential candidate.

In a congratulatory statement that he personally signed, Vice President Osinbajo stated that the party’s presidential candidate has demonstrated zeal, patriotism, bravery, and resolve in the service of nation-building for decades.

“To all members of our great party, regardless of who you voted for in the primaries, we must now unify behind our presidential candidate and standard-bearer to assure our party’s triumph in the 2023 elections,” he added.

In addition, former President Goodluck Jonathan asked the candidates of all political parties to run a campaign free of animosity and division, and to use the chance to promote peace and unity.

In a statement released yesterday by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan also urged them to abstain from violence and conduct that could incite bloodshed or worsen national fault lines.

The Director-General of the Rotimi Amaechi Campaign Organisation, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, has encouraged Tinubu to be magnanimous in victory and bring every member of the party along with him.

Ndume stated that as a proponent of power transfer to the South, he was pleased with the outcome of the primary, despite the fact that his candidate, Amaechi, did not win the nomination.

Further, Ndume asked dissatisfied APC members to put the past behind them and unite guarantee that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not return to power in Nigeria in 2019.

“As a devoted party member, I’ll work diligently to guarantee that the APC wins all elections in the coming year. “There is a lot of work to be done, and we must get started on it immediately,” he said.

Dr. Olusegun Salau, chairman of the Yoruba Council of Obas in FCT, Abuja, encouraged Tinubu to forgive those who competed against him at the APC convention.

Oba Salau made the call yesterday in Abuja, when Yoruba citizens from the Federal Capital Territory paid him a visit at his palace in Kado Life Camp, Abuja.
