According to an inside source, the committee charged with selecting the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate has decided to allow Wike, the runner-up in the primaries, to run with Atiku.

“The committee has selected Governor Nyesom Wike of the state of Rivers. He received an overwhelming majority of votes from the committee. The majority of the members view him as the appropriate running mate for Atiku.

“You observed his performance in the primaries. The party leaders have selected him because they believe in his qualifications.

The committee reportedly voted on the three names proposed by the General Aliyu Gusau committee, with the Governor of Rivers receiving sixteen votes.

The source named Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Udom Emmanuel as the three candidates (Akwa Ibom).

Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Bala Mohammed attended the meeting, which was headed by Deputy National Chairman for the North, Ambassador Umaru Damagun (Bauchi).

Others include former governors Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Liyel Imoke (Cross Rivers), and Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), as well as House minority leader Ndudi Elumelu.

Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the party, addressed committee members just prior to a closed-door session and pushed them to reach a conclusion “between tomorrow and Friday.”

According to the chairman, Candidate Atiku wrote to us as the administrative arm of the party regarding his choice of running partner.

According to him, the various organs of the party are well represented on his committee, including the NWC, the Governors Forum National Assembly, and the Former Governors, who all proposed their candidate.

Ayu emphasised that “this time, our presidential candidate has resolved to bring everyone along, unlike in 2019 when he chose his running partner without extensive consultation.”
