Former Vice President of the Senate Ike Ekweremadu has stated that the South-East will not vote for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Obi, one of the PDP Presidential candidates, switched to the Labour Party prior to the PDP Primaries, which were won by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Even though he is from the same region as Obi, Ekweremadu stated that the South East cannot afford to vote for the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election.
Although Ekweremadu spoke shortly after Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was named Atiku’s running mate, the video is currently popular on social media.
It is unknown which media outlet Ekweremadu talked with, however a female voice can be heard in the YouTube video.
“I guarantee South East will vote for the People Democratic Party” (PDP). I can assure you of that. Peter Obi is without a doubt our son, but you must be active. You must consider whether Peter can win the presidential election. Can the East afford to cast their votes away? Can we afford sentimentality when it comes to our people, our children, and our future? No”
“We do not aim to do anything that we will later regret. In light of this, we feel that the PDP holds the key to the future of our nation’s citizens. Therefore, we must make this decision as leaders. I will sit down with our people and explain the situation.”
“Okowa is obviously one of us, thus there is no difference between Okowa and Peter when it comes to defending the interests of the South. Therefore, we will travel to the South East and offer them this option.”
