Rt. Hon. Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has announced his candidacy for President in 2023.

Rotimi Amaechi revealed his interest in the contest on Saturday, after previously denying it.

On his verified Facebook profile, he stated, “I stand before you now to proclaim my desire and submit my application to serve as your future President.”

Amaechi has served in the government since 1999, including two years as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly (1999-2007) and two stints as Governor of Rivers State (2007-2015). President Muhammadu Buhari reappointed him as one of the few ministers in his cabinet in 2019.

Amaechi, who is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most powerful ministers, led Buhari’s campaigns twice, in 2015 and 2019.
