Tambuwal stepped down for Atiku Abubakar minutes prior to the start of voting in the recently ended PDP presidential primary and advised his supporters to vote for Abubakar.
The governor announced this while speaking to his supporters at Sokoto Government House on Friday.
In urging Nigerians to vote for the PDP, he stated that he was taught by his leaders to sacrifice for others, particularly for the welfare of the nation.
Tambuwal stated, “What we have done has been for the benefit of our party and the nation. I am grateful for everyone who prayed for me and our group. The sacrifice I have made for you is intended to strengthen our party, our democracy, and, with the grace of God, to provide a comfortable landing for our government.
“This is consistent with the teachings of our leaders and the [emulation] of the examples they have set for us in the past: we must continue to make sacrifices for the sake of all of us and our nation.
“I appreciate the support of the citizens of Sokoto State and all of my supporters around the nation. Rest certain that we will diligently strive for the triumph of our party in the General Elections of 2023.”
