With the country’s unpredictable energy supply, young Nigerians cannot be faulted for being “lazy,” according to All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential hopeful Bola Tinubu.

President Muhammadu Buhari was chastised for claiming that some Nigerian millennials were lethargic because they were simply trying to get on the gravy train.

“More than 60% of the population is under 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school, and they’re claiming that because Nigeria is an oil-producing country, they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare, and education for free,” Buhari said during a panel discussion with world leaders at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London.

The president’s remark caused widespread online outrage, prompting the invention of the hashtag ‘#LazyNigerianYouths’ to challenge the president.

Tinubu stated on Saturday at a rally of ruling party youths in the South West that no nation can experience “rapid growth” without electricity, and that the government cannot continue to make “excuses” for failing to provide a steady power supply.

He claims that the nation has an abundance of gas that may be used to create energy and even exported to European countries.

“We cannot keep making excuses for NEPA failure,” Tinubu stated. No! Without energy, no country can expand rapidly.

“Give us that, and if we fail, you may abuse us.” You can’t give us unpredictable, unreliable power and then blame us for being sluggish. No!

“Nigeria — it’s about time. We have enough gas to power our generators. We can offer gas to the rest of Europe while still making money.”
