Friday, Kashim Shettima divulged this information in an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today.
The former governor was responding on Tinubu’s recent remarks about his role in the president’s rise to power in 2015 and the fight for the presidency in 2023.
Tinubu’s remark has elicited numerous responses, with many attributing it to a desperation for power, an accusation that the presidential candidate has denied.
Shettima stated, “If we can take a trip down memory road, their love predates 2015.” it started considerably earlier. He attempted marriage even during the 2011 election.
“However, prior to the 2013/2014 election and subsequent presentation of Muhammadu Buhari, a prominent traditional ruler from Northern Nigeria led his own delegation to Asiwaju in Lagos and informed him not in our name; he does not represent us.
“A group of retired generals met Asiwaju and advised him not to speak in their name.” This is not the candidate we are seeking. Similarly, the northern elite, led by a professor, denounced President Buhari.
“To add insult to injury, a Katsina delegation renounced the president and stated that he was not their chosen choice.”
He stated that Tinubu withstood all these demands, stating that President Buhari could not have won the nomination in that year’s presidential primary in Lagos without the bloc votes from the South West.
