An explosion on Wednesday evening at Ajilete axis of the Owode-Idiroko road, Ogun State, killed five people and injured two others.
On the sloppy road, a fuel tanker rolled over, and the tank burst into flames.
According to reports, the truck was carrying 33,000 litres of diesel.
Five people were killed and two others were injured in the explosion. Our correspondent learned that the victims were residents of the area.
Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Idiroko Unit, told Daily Trust that contrary to earlier reports that seven people had died, only five had been recorded.
Olaluwoye said the accident occurred at about 8:15am and that the victims were burnt to death.
Both a motorcycle and a bus were destroyed in the explosion, according to him.
According to the Commander of the Unit, the corpses of the victims had been taken over by the families.
“No vehicle rammed into the tanker,” he said. The tank fell off the back of the tanker and exploded. There were seven people involved, five of whom died and two were injured.
At the time we arrived, the driver had removed the truck’s head. We have allowed the police to handle that aspect.”
