Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, were not prevented from entering the Lekan Salami stadium complex during Wednesday’s unveiling.
The two kings weren’t to be offended since they had been duly invited to attend the event, Governor Seyi Makinde said.
As Taiwo Adisa, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, stated in a statement, “What happened was that the drivers of the revered monarchs’ convoys were unable to access the VVIP Drop Off Zone through the gate they entered through.
“From the VVIP Drop Off Zone, the monarchs could easily access the VVIP box without going up and down the stairs, since that would have been too stressful for them given their advancing age.”
“It is unthinkable that some individuals would try to wedge themselves between the palaces of the monarchs and the state government, which values their presence,” Adisa said.
Olubadan’s Assistant Director of Media and Communications, Yanju Adegboyega, said on Wednesday, “The DSS and bouncers would not let us in.”. They said the monarchs could only enter with one aide if they were allowed only to enter with one aide. Olubadan had no choice but to leave, as did Aseyin.”
