For ransom, bandits in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area are now demanding prepared meals.
Since the state government prohibited weekly markets as a tactic to combat instability in the state, the bandits were reported to have recovered from assaulting villages.
It’s been reported that since the prohibition on bandits operating in Damari, Kutemashi, and Kuyello villages in Birnin Gwari, the kidnappers have only requested for prepared food when they kidnap victims.

A sense of calm has returned to Damari due of the bandits’ cessation of attacks on our villages. Most of the time, they camp out in the woods and hunt for food, mainly prepared foods sold by local merchants,” he said.
When they kidnap two or three people on a farm, one of them is permitted to go collect food from their family as ransom since there is no communication network to make contact, he said.
As the youth leader said, even though Dogon Dawa is mostly secure, the locals are nonetheless wary of entering their farmlands for fear of being attacked.
Aside from this, Babangida complained that the restriction on private motorcycle usage in communities had made life worse for both bandits and locals.
