Enugu State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill prohibiting open grazing and regulating cattle ranching.
The event comes two days after the House held a public hearing on the Bill.
As a result of the consideration of the Report of Public Hearing presented by Co-chairs of the Joint Committee, Mrs Amaka Ugwueze, Emma Ugwuerua and Okwu Chinedu, the Bill was passed.
House Leader Ikechukwu Ezeugwu said the bill will help curb clashes between farmers and herders, as well as the killing and raping of women.
During the public hearing, Speaker of the House, Edward Ubosi, said the anti-open grazing bill is not intended to target anyone or any group but rather to promote peaceful coexistence.
The House has ignored a request made by Miyetti Allah who asked that they submit information and arguments on the bill within 30 days.
