Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, FCT’s minister of state, has announced 604 suspected cholera cases and 54 deaths in the six area councils.
As she flagged off community sensitization on cholera and other disease outbreaks in the territory, she said this.
Aliyu, who officiated at the flag-off ceremony at the palace of HRH Mohammed Bello Umar, Agora of Zuba, on Saturday, expressed concern over the increasing number of suspected cholera cases.
As of May 2021, the FCT had recorded 604 suspected cases of cholera across its six area councils, with 54 deaths and 9 positive results for cholera from rapid diagnostic tests.
Over 120 communities are affected across the six area councils, with AMAC having the highest number of cases, followed by Gwagwalada and Bwari area councils.
According to her, good hygiene, proper disposal of sewage and refuse, hand washing practices, and drinking safe water can help curb the further spread of the disease in the region.
