A trailer carrying cows crushed eight children hawking at a traffic point around Kwata flyover junction in Awka, Anambra State, on Friday.
The trailer lost control at the intersection and collided with nine vehicles at the traffic light, killing eight people.
Angry youths, who were enraged by the situation, set the cows and the lorry ablaze.
It was reported that the accident occurred when a truck carrying cattle down the Kwata junction slope lost control, causing eight members of the hawker community to die, as well as two SUVs to be hit.
However, the eye witness was unable to assess the conditions of the driver and his assistant.
When this report was filed, Anambra State Fire Service personnel were on the scene extinguishing the fire. Meanwhile, soldiers and policemen who had taken over the situation fired gunshots to disperse the irate youths.
Anambra State Police Command has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
