An armed robbery in Jigawa State has claimed the life of a Nigerian Army major.
ASP Lawan Shisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement, saying an army private was also killed.
Around 9pm on Sunday, the incident occurred at Dumdubus village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
According to Lawan, the two officers were traveling from Maiduguri, Borno State to Kaduna, adding that efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Approximately 2100 hours on July 4, it was reported that armed robbers had blocked the road to Kano from Maiduguri at Dumdubus village, Fanisau Division, Dutse local government area.
The police patrol team arrived at the scene about 40 meters after Dumdubus village. The robbers had escaped into the bush before the police patrol team arrived.
PTE Harisu Aliyu was shot and killed, while Major M. S. Isma’il was wounded on the neck and shoulder. (sic).
They were both moving from Maiduguri to Kaduna in vehicle No. BWR 105 BX. Effort is on motion to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
