The attacks and reprisals in the southern senatorial district of Kaduna State have killed at least 42 people between Sunday and Monday.
Several other people were also injured in attacks in the Madamai and Kacecere communities in Kaura and Zangon Kataf local governments, respectively.
The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in Plateau State is treating some of the injured.
However, Kaura and Zangon Kataf sources say the death toll could rise to 50 as more corpses are being discovered in surrounding bushes.
Kaduna State Government confirmed yesterday that 34 people were killed in Madamai village of Kaura LGA on Sunday evening.
The death toll for Monday’s incident in Kacecere village in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area is 42.
The remains of 45 people have been discovered from the Madamai attack, according to Derek Christopher from Kaura.
The Daily Trust reports that Yakubu Danjuma was killed during an earlier attack on Jankasa village in Zangon Kataf. This was confirmed by Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner of internal security and home affairs.
Among those who survived the attack, Mama Jerry told our correspondent that most of the survivors hid in nearby bushes while gunmen burned down their homes, killed people, and raped their women.
