Governor Babagana Zulum’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, criticized Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, for misbehaving.
Kyari, who was suspended by the Police Service Commission and replaced as head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector-General of Police, is currently seeking to wash bribery allegations from his past.
He had been indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as part of the ongoing trial of suspected billionaire fraudster Abbas Ramon, better known as Hushpuppi.
He was accused of collecting an N8 million bribe in a multimillion-dollar scam involving Hushpuppi, according to the FBI, which asked the Nigerian authorities to find him.
Kyari denied the allegations, but the police set up a committee to investigate him.
During the probe, a video of Kyari with Governor Babagana Zulum and Senator Kashim Shettima circulated on social media.
The video shows the embattled officer shaking hands with Zulum as Shettima watches from a distance.
Social media users reported that the two top politicians from Borno visited Kyari, also a Borno native, to show solidarity with him.
In a statement on Wednesday night, Gusau clarified the video record.
When Kyari visited Shettima’s Abuja residence in June, he met both men.
Guisau said Kyari failed to follow through on his promise to do the needful when his attention was drawn to the matter despite promising to do so.
“The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, do not even know where the embattled DCP Abba Kyari lives, much less visit him. “Zulum’s spokesman clarified.”
As a result, Gusau said he issued the clarification, since Abba Kyari, who promised to do so himself, did not do so, more than four hours after making the promise.
According to Isa Gusau, a video recording was made at the residence of Senator Kashim Shettima on June 30, 2021, during Abba Kyari’s empathy visit to the Senator following the mischievous circulation of rumors that she had died in the UK.
“Kyari himself shared the same video on his verified Facebook wall shortly after visiting Shettima on June 30.
Kyari, who hails from Borno state and comes from Shettima’s constituency, visited the former governor to wish him well as many others had done at the time.
Gusau released a video of sympathizers who visited the senator around the same time, showing the senator receiving them in his house, which is the same place as Abba Kyari’s house.
According to Gusau, viewers should also take note of the TV behind Zulum and Abba Kyari with CNN breaking news on the release of American comedian actor, Bill Cosby, which occurred on June 30, 2021.
In a statement, Abba Kyari’s spokesman asked him to clarify as he had promised when he was called to attention to the misrepresentation given that it was Kyari himself who took and released that video on his Facebook page on June 30, 2021.
