Nigeria Police Force has reported that it ambushed some bandits in the Katsina state command who had attacked some villages and recovered animals that had been stolen.
SP Gambo Isah, the command’s spokesman, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
On August 7 between 5:00 p.m. and 8 p.m., over 40 motorcycles were used by the bandits in their number to raid some villages in affected local government areas, according to Isah.
Over 300 cattle, sheep and goats were rustled during the raid, according to the statement.
After receiving the distress call, a combined team of police officers and vigilante groups blocked the hoodlums from exiting the forest between Dagarawa and Tsaskiya cattle route,” the statement said.
Moreover, he said that the team engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight and recovered all the rustled animals, and many of the bandits fled with bullet wounds.
Search parties are still combing the area to find the fleeing bandits or to recover their dead bodies and weapons, Isah said.
