Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano State, says bandits are gathering in forests in the state and are using them as hideouts.
His words specifically mentioned Falgore forest, where he sought the army’s help before they (bandits) executed their dangerous mission.
According to the governor, bandits may be planning on attacking people in the state.
He spoke at the Defense Headquarters in Abuja Thursday after meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor; and Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya; Oladayo Amao, Chief of Air Staff; and Vice Admiral A.Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff.
In addition, I am here to seek the help of the Nigerian Army to maintain the peace in Kano State. The bandits have turned some state forests into hideouts. A band of bandits has gathered in Falgore Forest and may be planning an attack on our citizens.
We are building houses, schools, and hospitals for the herdsmen in some of the forests, but we want the Army to take charge of the Falgore Forest. I implore the Nigerian Army to complete the work on the training depot at the Falgore Forest as quickly as possible so that they can take over the forest.”
Ganduje offered condolences to the Army over the passing of the late Army Chief, Lieutenant-Gen. The death of Attahiru and 10 other officers was described as painful, untimely, and sorrowful.
In response, Maj.-Gen. YAYAH promised to take steps to contain the insecurity across the country with the help of the military and other security agencies.
Yahaya promised to visit Falgore and see how soldiers would work on the army’s facilities in the forest.
