Scores of civilians were killed in a raid carried out by bandits on a military base in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to our reporter, the camp known as Burkusuma is situated in the Dama village.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, according to sources.
Sabon Birni’s former chairman, Idris Muhammad Gobir, fondly called Danchadi, who confirmed the attack, said many security operatives were missing.
The marauders also burned down two patrol vehicles and removed another used to transport food stolen from the village. They
reported that a resident of the area, using a Nigerien network, told them about the attack.
He added, “But I will still contact him for more updates and get back to you.”
However, there were some vehicles sent to evacuate wounded soldiers, according to a prominent tribal leader in the area.
“Over ten trucks with well-armed soldiers are currently in the forest trailing the bandits,” he said.
An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, who requested anonymity, confirmed to our reporter that three NSCDC personnel were among those killed.
“As I speak to you, we are at the morgue to claim and recover their corpses for burial,” he said.
Four persons were also shot by the bandits in Katsira village.
