An attack by unknown gunmen in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State resulted in the death of one person and the abduction of several others, according to the Police Command in Sokoto State.
ASP Sunusi Abubakar, a spokesperson for the command, confirmed the attack to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday evening.
“We have received a report of an attack on Friday evening by unknown gunmen who stormed Tangaza LGA’s headquarters.
“The bandits killed one of the traders and abducted yet another unspecified number of people as they took food and drinks.
According to him, the police, along with other security agencies, are still investigating the matter.
An anonymous source from Tangaza told NAN that a suspected armed bandit shot sporadically, killing a trader and a young girl on the spot and later killing a second child in hospital.
Additionally, three other people were injured and were receiving treatment in a hospital.
“However, due to the timely intervention of security forces and local vigilantes, one of the five children abducted by the gunmen was rescued,” he said.
According to NAN, the ongoing security operations in Zamfara and some neighboring states, as well as the closure of major markets, have taken a huge toll on the suspected bandits.
