Residents of Jaya settlements in the Boko district of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State were killed on Monday by bandits.
Several villages make up the village of Jaya, located a few kilometres east of the Boko community.
Over 100 motorbikes were involved in the invasion of the village, according to Newsmen.
“They also stole cows and other animals. Three injured people were ferried to a hospital in the Boko community. They were shot in the arms, legs, and thighs. However, they were referred to a larger medical facility”
The armed men attacked a community there a few days ago, but were ambushed by vigilantes who got wind of the attack by the armed criminals. The armed bandits retreated after several of them were killed.
Apparently, this angered the bandits, so they reinforced and invaded the communities. As reported, they came on more than 100 motorcycles and when they laid siege, it was drizzling and people were taking shelter inside their homes.
A resident, Ali Aminu, told our correspondent that some women and children had fled to Boko community this evening, despite the incessant rain.
The spokesman for the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
