Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was killed by suspected bandits.
Known as Dambardi, the deceased was killed in the early hours of Friday morning in his village, Lere.
The Kaduna State police have been made aware of the incident, but are still awaiting full details.
Haruna Usman, the MACBAN chairman in the state, told Channels Television over the phone that the bandits stormed the residence of the deceased at around 2am, took him out, and demanded N20 million from him.
When Abdullahi told them that he did not have such a sum of money, the bandits insisted he raise it or they would kill him.
The late Abdullahi then took them to some butchers who raised only N250,000 for him.
The bandits were enraged by his failure to raise the N20 million they demanded, so they took him to the Saminaka, Mariri-Zango highway and shot him to death.
The Miyetti Allah, while describing Abubakar Abdullahi’s death as a painful loss, urged security agencies and the Kaduna State government to seize the perpetrators of the dastardly act with immediate effect.
