A group of bandits who attempted to abduct a pregnant woman in Sokoto State have been killed. Deputy Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko disclosed this at a briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, troops of the Nigerian Army attached to Operation Hadarin Daji neutralized 14 bandits terrorizing Eldabala village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Onyueko said 35 other victims were rescued.
As well as 7 AK-47 rifles, 6 motorcycles, assorted military and police uniforms, 6 vehicles and 4 machetes, the soldiers assisted one of the victims to deliver a baby safely during one of the encounters,” he said.
16 bandits’ informants and collaborators were nabbed, including an imposter who passed himself off as a Lance Corporal.
During the 16th and 29th of July, our troops responded to distress calls by bandits and armed militia groups attacking civilians at Hanutaru and Dansadau villages in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, along the Gusau-Sokoto Road.
Within this time frame, troops were able to carry out rescue operations at Bakori LGA in Katsina State, Eldabala village in Tangaza LGA and along other roads in Sokoto State.
“As a result, 14 bandits were neutralized. During this period, 36 kidnapped victims were rescued and troops assisted one of the victims to deliver a baby safely.
Seven AK-47 rifles, six motorcycles, assorted military and police uniforms, six vehicles, and four machetes were recovered during the investigation.
The minister urged Nigerians to report suspicious movements in their environment to the security personnel at all times.
