Leaders and stakeholders in Borno state have agreed to reintegrate repentant members of Boko Haram into communities.
A stakeholder meeting organized by the state government and presided over by Governor Babagana Zulum led to the decision.
Kaka Shehu Lawan, Borno’s commissioner for justice and attorney general, issued a 16-point communique at the end of the meeting outlining the conditions that must be met before insurgents are allowed into various communities.
A periodic media briefing on the absolved insurgents’ activities as a means of keeping the public informed of developments, as well as retrieving all weapons and firearms used by them, are some of the measures.
They also called on the Nigerian military “to sustain the ongoing offensive on the activities of ISWAP”.
