Temitope Balogun Joshua, the founder of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), died in Lagos on Saturday evening shortly after concluding a programme at the church, Shauntv learnt from family sources who did not want to be quoted since an official statement was still being prepared. He was 57 years old.
His cause of death was not immediately disclosed to Shauntv but family sources said his remains had been deposited at the morgue and an autopsy would be conducted immediately.
Joshua reigned as a fiery preacher on television for several decades, attracting a large number of Christians around the globe. Mr Joshua’s SCOAN runs Emmanuel TV, one of Nigeria’s largest Christian broadcasters, available worldwide via digital and terrestrial channels.
His church was the focus of a multi-national investigation in 2014 after a section of its Lagos headquarters collapsed, killing dozens and injuring many more.
Mr Joshua denied allegations of negligence, and a trial was still underway at the time of his death.
