Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested by security operatives in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The Nigerian secret police captured Igboho after he fled Nigeria to evade arrest.
However, he was captured by security operatives in the neighboring country.
A source with knowledge of the incident “Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago.”.
This night he was supposed to travel to Germany via Cotonou. He wanted to leave Africa via Cotonou. He was arrested by security officials in Cotonou.
“They plan to bring him back to Nigeria.”
Peter Afunanya, spokesman for the Department of State Services (DSS), was unavailable for comment as he did not respond to calls or texts.
On July 1, Igboho was declared wanted after the DSS raided his residence.
In an exchange of gunfire with security agents, two associates of the activist were fatally shot, while 12 suspects were arrested.
Afunanya had promised that Igboho would be tracked at a press briefing at DSS headquarters.
“IGBOHO was given the opportunity to escape during the gun duel which lasted for an hour. “Sunday ADEYEMO, also known as Sunday IGBOHO, is now on the run.”
“IGBOHO may go as far as he can. He may hide for as long as he wants. As his strength carried him, he might have attacked security operatives. This will be the end of his shenanigans.
“Soon, he will have no hiding place. It is certain that his strength will fail him. The law will catch up with him. It may take a while for the law to take effect. Nevertheless, it will be steady.
