Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, says no administration since 1999 has performed better in respecting the rights of citizens than that of President Buhari.
Garba made this comment in an interview with NTA on Friday, May 28. Shehu was speaking on how the current administration has performed so far after 22 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
Before the current administration took office, there was a flagrant and deliberate refusal to obey the courts. People in the political opposition were detained without trial, and courts would order them released, but they were not freed. Malami's justice administration is under the guidance of a global philosophy that puts national interests first. In cases where an individual's right, even when justified by a court of law, threatens the interests of the majority, now there is a caveat. Occasionally, this has been misinterpreted as disobedience at the center. Nevertheless, in terms of citizen rights and respect for the law, this has been the best administration since 1999, as far as the respect for courts and citizens goes. He said, "As of now, there are no political detainees in this country."
