Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, has promised to build an Islamic University in Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Rochas Okorocha, chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said the Rochas Okorocha Foundation would build the university.
Recently, the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk, conferred the traditional title of Maga Alherin Kasar Hausa on the former governor.
At an event in Daura on Saturday, Mr Okorocha’s representative, Isa Halidu, said students would benefit from free tuition and accommodation.
Since the Emir of Daura made me a traditional titleholder, I would like to give a gift that would never be forgotten. Under the Rochas Okorocha Foundation, I will build an Islamic university with modern facilities in Daura town and commission it myself,” he said.
The governor noted that his Foundation has built schools and undertaken many development projects in other states, thus repaying Daura town for what President Buhari did for the country.
Prior to this announcement, the federal government had announced plans to build a university of transportation in the town with significant contributions from Chinese contractors.
