The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that its primary held on Saturday ahead of the July local government elections, was successful.
However, it urged security agencies to investigate violent incidents in some local government areas and nab the perpetrators.
Two people were believed to have been killed in the area of Surulere, where Shauntv News reports peace was broken by pockets of violence.
Surulere was not able to hold the election due to violence even as some thugs and cultists loyal to some party leaders allegedly took control of the local government area on Saturday.
Nevertheless, the APC regretted the violence, urging the security agencies to pursue those responsible.
The party’s interim committee chief, Hon Seye Oladejo, congratulated the party members on the successful conduct of the primaries for the upcoming Local Government elections in all 20 Local Government Councils, 37 Local Council Development Areas, and 377 Wards.
In his statement, Oladejo said that there was a large turnout of members who cast their votes for preferred aspirants in accordance with the guidelines.
“We regret the reports of a few skirmishes in several wards and the fallouts that resulted from them.
It is with deep sympathy that we sympathize with those affected by this unfortunate incident.
We urge the security agencies to maintain law and order while we await the official reports of the electoral officials.”
Hoodlums, cultists, and other outlaws were not members of the party.
The untoward interference of external forces within the progressive fold must be resisted by all and sundry.
Likewise, the party urged aggrieved candidates to approach the Electoral Appeal Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN) in order to lodge formal complaints.”
