The Department of State Services (DSS) stopped the alaafin of Oyo and the Olubadan of Ibadanland from commissioning the remodeled Lekan Salami Adamasingba Stadium, on Wednesday evening.
The stadium rehabilitated by Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration was commissioned by dignitaries from within and outside the country.
As well as their aides, the monarchs went to the stadium, but security operatives insisted they not enter the stadium with everyone with them.
They left in anger after waiting for about 30 minutes at the entrance.
The Assistant Director of Media and Communications to Olubadan, Yanju Adegboyega, told journalists after leaving the stadium that it was very annoying for security operatives to stop the monarchs right away.
“Olubadan, Alaaafin of Oyo, and Aseyin of Iseyin were trying to enter the stadium, but overzealous security officers stopped them,” he said.
Even when the monarchs showed the security operatives their Very Important Personality (VIP) Invitation Cards, they were not allowed to enter the stadium, he said.
“We were denied entry to the stadium,” he continued. We were denied entry by the DSS and bouncers.
“They said they would only let the monarchs in with one aide. Olubadan had no choice but to leave, and Aseyin followed us as well.
I am the assistant director of media.”
The DSS has not yet reacted to the development.
