At least 17 Corps members deployed to Edo State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been admitted to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

They were treated at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital on Sapele Road, Benin, Edo State.
Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Edo Government-owned hospital, Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi, who spoke while in the company of Governor Godwin Obaseki during an inspection tour of the state’s infectious disease isolation centre at the hospital in Benin, stated that even though the cases were unvaccinated, they were undertaking studies and analysis to find out if there was Delta variant in the state.

Mr. Ozeto Waheed, the Personal Assistant to the Edo Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), confirmed the 17 Corps members were mobilized to serve in South-South State.

Mr. Waheed said the deployed corps members, as instructed by NYSC’s Edo coordinator, Mrs. Abiodun Olubukola, were always tested at the orientation camp gate, while those who tested positive for CoVid-19 were usually moved to the isolation centre.
According to Obaseki, his administration is prepared to deal with the Delta variant of COVID-19, but insists there is no confirmed case of the variant in Edo.

As part of efforts to protect Edo residents from the deadly virus, the Edo Governor also announced that arrangements were being made to vaccinate more residents.
