Senator Theodore Orji, a former governor of Abia State, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The agency’s headquarters in Abuja detained him on Thursday after he was arrested in Abuja.
EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed Orji’s arrest but did not elaborate.
Orji, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District, governed Abia State from 2007 to 2015.
At about 10am, he was intercepted at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
He is being interrogated alongside his son, Chinedu, the speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.
According to the EFCC, Orji and both of his sons are being investigated for allegations connected to public funds misappropriation and money laundering.
