Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State and a serving senator, and his wife, Mairo Al-Makura, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Yesterday, sources at the headquarters of the commission sayst that the duo honoured the invitation extended to them by the commission.
According to one of the sources, the couple was detained when the operatives of the anti-graft agency demanded some explanations about the state’s finances, but they were unable to respond.
One of the sources told shauntv that he could not say how much it is but knew they were being grilled about misappropriating funds.
Before his election as a Senator representing the Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Al-Makura governed Nasarawa between 2011 and 2019.
The duo was still at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja when this report was filed at about 10:30 p.m.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the EFCC, told our correspondent on the phone that he could not confirm the development until he was briefed on it.
