According to a witness, a convoy of five vehicles was attacked along Gada-Biyu road in Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau.
Apparently, the victims were returning to the South West after attending an event marking the Islamic New Year at the Sheik Dahiru Usman Bauchi Mosque in Bauchi State.
The identities of those responsible for the shooting are unknown, but the victims were killed on the day some people who were earlier killed were to be buried.
Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has condemned the incident, warning troublemakers to desist.
His administration will not allow any form of lawlessness to disrupt the peace in the state.
Security agencies were directed to identify and arrest the perpetrators while he dominated the area to restore calm.
The Governor expressed condolences to the families of those killed, and assured all law-abiding citizens that security has been beefed up around the area, as well as throughout the entire metropolis, to prevent any further bloodshed.
To enable law enforcement agencies to respond appropriately, he reminded the citizens to remain vigilant and be security conscious.
