Former deputy president Ibrahim Mantu has passed away. According to a family source who confirmed his death to our correspondent, he died after nine days of illness and isolation at a private hospital in Abuja.
The former deputy senate president died at about 2am on Tuesday, he said.
“He fell ill about nine days ago and was being treated at home but was rushed to the hospital when he showed no signs of improvement,” the source said, adding that the funeral would take place in Abuja later Tuesday.
Mantu was a prominent figure in the nation’s political scene for many years.
He served as Deputy Senate President under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) until 2007, when he did not return to the Senate.
Mantu, who hails from Gindiri District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, worked in numerous establishments before entering politics
