Government has approved the right of male civil servants to take 14 days off for paternity leave.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, made the announcement after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

The purpose is to allow for proper bonding between the father and a newborn, whether natural-born or adopted, especially during the early stages of the child’s life.

According to Yemi-Esan, fathers of adopted babies younger than four months will be able to take advantage of the same gesture approved for federal civil servants.
