According to reports, 42 people have been killed by gunmen within two days in rural communities of Katsina-Ala and Gwer West local governments of Benue State.
Several passengers are also reported to have been taken away by the gunmen who blocked the Makurdi – Naka road in Gwer West.
Following an attack carried out by gunmen between Thursday and Friday morning, villager reports indicate 36 of the 42 victims were killed in Kastina-Ala, while the remaining six were murdered in Gwer West.
A resident of Kastina-Ala told our correspondent by telephone that 36 people were killed in the early hours of Thursday in the Shitile, Shikaan and Mbagena Kpav areas of the local government area.
The resident, who did not wish to be named, said he did not know whether the killings were committed by local bandits or armed herders.
