On Sunday, hoodlums attacked the Police Headquarters in Imo State. One attacker was killed in the confrontation.
The Imo police headquarters in Owerri was attacked for the second time since hostilities against security agencies began in Nigeria’s southeast.
Unknown gunmen attacked the police headquarters and the Nigerian Correctional Service on April 5, freeing 1844 inmates.
SP Bala Elkana, the Public Relations Officer for the State Police, said in a statement the hoodlums invaded the facilities in the early hours of Sunday but were met by operatives.
Police PRO, in a statement, said: “Unknown gunmen posing as hoodlums attempted to attack Police Headquarters on May 1. However, they suffered a crushing defeat.
“They tried to enter the Police Headquarters through Works Layout near Avan Nursery and Primary School but were repelled vehemently.
“They arrived in a white Hummer bus. During an exchange of fire, one of the hoodlums was killed and others were injured.
“The Hummer bus has been recovered. Also recovered were two Ak47 rifles,” the statement read.
