Hundreds of detainees at the Abolongo correctional institution in Oyo State have been liberated; the facility’s entire population was released during a Friday night assault.
According to a resident of Oyo who notified Daily Trust of the event, it occurred just after 10 p.m. on Friday.
According to our reports, the prison’s entrance was blown up with explosives, causing security officers to evacuate.
Olanrewaju Anjorin, spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the state, verified the occurrence.
“It has been established that the assault occurred. And the comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other senior authorities are now conducting an assessment of the issue.
“However, I can affirm that the occurrence occurred.”
The nation is rife with instability, and the administration has been fighting to put things under control.
The perpetrators of the incident are unknown, however it occurred hours after the Federal Government connected self-proclaimed activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, to Boko Haram supporters.
