A group of gunmen suspected of being kidnappers attacked a marble quarry in Ugya village in Toto local government area, killing one worker and abducting another in Nasarawa state.
Salihu, a resident of the community, said that the incident occurred around 4:43 pm on Monday.
He said AK47 rifle-wielding gunmen invaded the quarry marble site, which was two kilometers away from the community.
Aliyu, who runs a marble quarry, had left for home when the invasion occurred.
“He had just returned from the quarry site a short time ago when he alerted me that kidnappers were at the quarry site,” Salihu said.
“He took two vigilantes on his motorcycle to engage them. When one of the kidnappers shot him in the chest, he died instantly,” he said.
Several workers at the quarry narrowly escaped, but Abdul Umar Ekuji was whisked away at gunpoint.
Salihu said the remains of the deceased have been buried according to Islamic rites, but added that the families of the kidnapped victim have yet to establish contact with the abductors.
ASP Ramhan Nansel, spokesman for the Nasarawa state police command, says he is still waiting for details about the kidnapping incident, but he will contact the DPO responsible for the Toto local government division.
